O cool, yes fortunately my bed is in the relationships area, but there is no room to seperate it from the wall. Well i'm currently single and i have a few photos of my family and friends on my desk. Thanks for watching, and your kind words! Where your bed is depends on what imagery you might want up near it. Google-up the feng shui bagua to see how your bedroom is divided up into different themed areas, based on the location of your main entry door. Ideally, put your bed in the relationships area and you can have photos of you and your loved one (but no one else!). Hopefully your bed can be moved a bit away from the wall to allow good people and energy flow.

Hey very nice video regarding feng shui, well designed indeed. I like the idea of putting a picture of mountains behind the bed, but do you have any other suggestions concerning other suitable imagery? Possibly waterfalls or rivers, though I've heard not to put water related imagery in the bedroom. Also, my bedroom is quite small and my double bed is aligned against the wall. Is there any good cures for this, as I know you should have good access from both sides. Thanks heaps in advance!

Thanks for watching! We are very comfortable living here. Headboards help to anchor and support you when you rest. It is good to have a strong headboard, but not too hard (like a metal headboard). Also avoid floating the bed in the middle of the room without the support of a wall or placing the bed with the headboard against a window (again, not good grounding and anchoring while you sleep).

The phone is a good idea, but try it out in different spots and see where it feels good to you. I also just heard that pictures of mountains are great to put behind a desk in a home office; it anchors a business or study efforts; so if you have a home office, you might want to consider the mountain picture there, too!

Josette, you're welcome! The mountain picture sounds wonderful. With your front door, if it's facing East, appropriate colors are Green, Yellow, Earth-tones, White, and Metallic. Children and Creativity are big areas for the East, so you might want to hang original artwork and/or photos of children near your front door to maximize the good energy there. (Just a thought....) Thanks for watching and commenting! Any feng shui reference materials are great to help make decisions on placing interior design elements in your living space. Your advice is something we recommend all the time, too -- it's easy to move things around in a home (unless it's a bathtub or a toilet!!!); make gradual changes, take careful note of how you feel about your living space when those changes are made, make adjustments accordingly, and keep observing what happens in your life. Dragons are very lucky. I have friends who positioned a bagua mirror and dragons on their windows facing west, for protection. Proper placement of any elements in a room depends on many things, most importantly orientation of the room and main entrances. Best advice: without an expert visiting your space, experiment. Place objects in a way that feels good to you and live with it for a week. Take notes about your experiences. Make new arrangements for another week. Compare and choose the better.

Try to keep the underside of your bed open for air to circulate; but if not possible, then keep the clothing nicely folded and make sure it's not "junk storage." Clean up all clutter! Instead of a mountain, hang nothing up over your bed or a picture that is meaningful to you (anchor it well!). Front door color? It depends on the direction your door faces and where it's situated. Look up a bagua chart online to check proper colors. Good luck!

Beautiful room! I read that dragons should never be placed inside the bedroom or any room of relaxation as it symbolizes activity. I have two dragons placed on my window ledge facing outside. I brought the feng shui encylopedia, its a big red book, i recommend you get 1 if you want to learn about this. Feng shui takes time to work, take gradual steps and try to take in what goes on around you and for you as you make these changes. Good luck

Congratulations, Lynda! What we love about placing a bed is that it's not a toilet -- you don't have to put it in one place and you're stuck having it there forever. You can easily move it around your room. Our advice: try placing your bed first in the spot where you intuitively feel it LOOKS best. Sleep with the bed there for one week. Move the bed to another location for one week, and so on. Compare how you sleep, dream, and wake up (healthy, rested, or tired, sick?) and may the best spot win!

Hello, we just got married and moved into our new apt! Trying to position the bed properly and we have a question - which is better/worse, having the headboard against a wall that is shared by the bathroom/toilet or having it against the wall in an inauspicious direction according to our ba gua directions? The third option is to sleep in our best direction but this side of the room has a closet door and a large window (with venetian blinds).

The dining room table is a Jacobean table, probably a Dutch antique from the 1600s, and it was found in an antique store in Cape Town, South Africa (South Africa has many beautiful Dutch or Cape Dutch antiques). You're 100% correct that it's relatively larger than many NYC apartments, particularly the studio I used to live in (basically a glorified all-purpose room with a separate bath). This is a rent-controlled apartment and is under a third of the going rate of about $3500/month for the same size apartment, so it's a very fortunate situation for the next 10-15 years or so until the rent creeps up to where it can "go market."

Thank you, Mr. D! I appreciate your watching and commenting on this vid. I originally lived in the Midwest, where living space is vast. In NYC, however, apartments tend to be on the small side, so at first I felt like a little pea rattling around in a tiny box. Now that I've adjusted and made some better use of good storage and space-saving solutions, it does seem much more spacious to me, and the decorating gives more of a sense of height to the ceilings -- and that all helps a lot!

THANKS for watching, GCP!!! The recipe you gave will definitely be tried out in our lil kitchen; as a former Iowa boy, I'm totally in for anything pork choppy. I've also been enjoying taking chicken breasts (rinse off and pat dry), dipping them in flour then one beaten egg then in panko (Asian style bread crumbs!), then baking them in greased dish for 40 minutes or so (turn them over halfway). The Panko can be plain (to which I add spices) or honey panko. ENJOY!

VERY NICE! The feet under the cabinets, the toaster, & phone, & 50's diner girls! And you know, if you really think about it, some of the best resteraunts don't have giant kitchens & they turn out wonderful meals! Gas is much better than electric! From my kitchen to yours... my baked pork chops over rice recipe: line a baking sheet with foil, place your prok chops, spoon golden mushroom soup over each one bake @350 30 to40min. Serve over buttery rice & a romane salad with feta & olives ! ENJOY

The Upper West Side of Manhattan is GREAT. Quiet, residential, but lots of interesting shops, stores, and a real neighborhood-y place in Manhattan which is friendly to students. I've lived in the area called "SoCo" (South of Columbia) for years, and students come down to are neighborhood around Broadway and 104th Street for restaurants, coffee shops, and groceries. The subway, of course, means you're close to all the rest of Manhattan, so you're as isolated or connected as you want to be.

Edit: If you've never visited New York before and are planning to in the near future, I strongly suggest you make a stop at this academic powerhouse to check out the campus in person. It is beautiful. I've been there about four times in the last six years, and every last time it felt like I wasn't in my own backyard anymore. I am a little over a year and a half from applying to the School of Public health at CU. I hope I get in. They have everything I am looking for in a school.

Eh, they're okay. They're not fantastic, but not terrible either. Especially considering this is Manhattan where space is such a scarcity. There's an entire building (John Jay) where its all single dorms for freshmen only, which is rare for undergrad colleges, especially freshmen.

yeah I went there for a field trip last year. The more popular areas were really nice (5th avenue and T.S as long as you dont look at the ground!!). So it was really great . Our hotel was in such a ghetto area though! The first 15mins in NYC was frightening. We don't have many "hardcore gangstas" in t. Other than that it was great for 50 kids in an arts program. But I could feel how fresh the air was home after, you can smell the smoke/trash in a lot of areas in NY, cept central park. Thank you!

Adventure is definitely NYC's middle name! It's a fast-paced, busy, and surprisingly friendly city (much more so than most U.S. cities; people are so helpful and I like their style of being very direct versus the "fake nice" behavior in most other places). The weather is relatively mild, and the air COULD be better (you are right that there is a pollution problem here and in other big cities). Keep dreaming, and do give our big city a try!

Thanks for watching! The room's color is fun -- it's like a Dreamsicle orange, but not a bright orange. The molding on the walls is widely spaced at the bottom of the wall and the molding bands narrow towards the top to help give the illusion of extra height. As to the messy part, this room is NOT always neat. If the bed is made in the morning, it's easy to keep the rest neat. There's a small hamper on wheels in the bedroom closet to help dump dirty clothes in -- instead of on the floor.

Thanks for watching and commenting, Lyle! I was in CHS when it burned, and the fellow who did it (and also burned area garages and the Lafayette Hotel downtown) was in my home room! It was a very tense time in Clinton. It HAS changed a lot, and not all for the good, unfortunately. I loved seeing the old fountain in Riverfront Park with all its bright colors, however. And some of the residential neighborhoods still look the same (I grew up on Main Ave near the old drive in).

I grew up in Clinton and left for the USAF in 68. I moved to Ohio as my late wife wanted to settle near her family. I was in Jr. College when the HS burned down and watch a lot of memories lost. My home was on the 1800 block of Roosevelt St. and now the North bridge is half a block from there. I was back in 2003 and it has changed so much.

You're right; Roosevelt School is now the administrative office building for the Clinton Public Schools. What a beautiful old building, and I like the way it faces an open land area (although I think it might have turned from a park into some kind of parking lot and apartment complex or home for the aged.... For years the Downtown Clinton Association had a lock on business within Clinton city limits, but they relaxed zoning to invite franchises and chain stores into the city, and that began the shift over to the Wal-Mart and highway string of businesses. I used to love shopping at Penney, Grants, Kleins, Jupiter, Woolworth's, Allen's Tea Room, Marcussi's, and other downtown mainstays. Thank heavens Rastrelli's is still around!

This is a nice video but kind of depressing. I've been in and around the Clinton area since I was born and it seems like everything in the Lyons District and downtown is getting abandoned for the new business area on the highway. Wal-Mart kind of drove everything out of business in my opinion. I remember going to some of those downtown stores (remember when we had a JC Penny?) when I was a little kid in the '90s but now most of them are gone. :(

Thanks for watching, Inkey! Students go to newer schools that were builtin the 1950s and 1960s (pretty much simple, cheap buildings without any character to them). The population is holding steady at about 27,000; it was 31,000 when I went to high school there back in the late 1960s. Greetings to you in the USVI! Best, Jay

Your point about craftsmanship is also relevant; with today's cut-corners and inexpensive finishes, we are losing amazing buildings with gorgeous detail work -- and many details get ripped out for architectural salvage, which is tragic. I hope it will all change!

It's so heartbreaking to see all these beautiful old building abandoned. Once they're gone, they're gone. There's no replacing them with the craftmanship of the day. The normal excuse for the abandonement is, "Oh it'll cost to much to rehabilitate it." Shouldn't have let it go in the first place. Very frustrating.

The health and wellbeing of buildings is important to a few, and I love the historic buildings preservation efforts going on around the world, trying to save the heritage of communities. These buildings served people well for decades; we need to be more creative about how we find NEW purposes for old buildings -- community and arts centers, new-concept restaurants, museums and art galleries, etc. xxooJay

Well the sad reality in America is as my cousin puts it "our world of fuckin lawyers". In America people will sue for anything and pretend that personal accountability doesnt exist. Which is probably one of the reasons GW isnt behind bars right now. It also makes it hard to donate things like used medical equipment (crutches in the case of my cousin) because the organizations are afraid of getting sued for the equipment possibly being faulty.

i first heard about freeganson oprah. i'm in NZ now, and the supermarkets sell slightlywithered produce at low prices and usually when we buy those things we basically waver the rights to sue should we get food poisoning. but on oprah i saw that they throw out perfectly good food (packaged corn, looked very fresh) it's sad cause people are starving elsewhere and food just easily goes down the trash.

I live in the city and used to work in a survey center and one time we had to ask people "If it would save the city money should we stop recycling?" and the amount of people that said yes was astonishing. I mean I would have been shocked by only one just cuz' to me recycling is an obvious thing especially with a city that produces as much waste as NYC. Also the food Freegans take is 100% quality food still in the packaging sometimes and fresh no need to be scared. I'm Freegan serious! ha ha :)

Greetings to you and beautiful India! Well, not ALL Americans waste food. I'd say the big problems are too much meat addiction (which demands clearing of land for grain to feed and let cattle graze) and the insane packaging and transportation of foodstuffs that is wasteful. There is a strong, positive movement in America to buy produce and crops from farmers markets and to eat locally produced and raised foods, avoiding food that is processed and shipped from far away.

I like recycling; it makes so much sense to me. My son would often move from one apartment to another in Chicago, he's not a big one on keeping possessions like furniture, so he would line his furniture up on the curb for people to pick up and use as they wished. Be careful with upholstered furniture and old mattresses -- I've heard of bedbugs and insect infestations that can get a bit nasty.
