If it has a fan on the bottom, yes. Antec has holes that allow you to mount it upside down.
By: LiquidZ2k. on 05 Dec 08, 18:32:21
I recommend power supplies at the top, with the exception of high end systems. Most average systems the little bit of extra heat of being at the top does'nt make a big difference to a PS. However I high end system will pull more juice and the PS will be running much hotter, therefore every bit of cool air for it the better.

Having a stable flow of power is much more important.
By: PbMike2005. on 04 Dec 08, 05:12:10
same cases put ventilation at the bottom for that with a dust filter (antec 1200) and some will let you mount it fan up
By: bbcpu. on 04 Dec 08, 01:47:45
would the psu fan interfere with the gpu fan? both would be sucking in air from the gap in between them (considering the psu is mounted on the bottom and its fan is on top).
By: michinsi. on 04 Dec 08, 01:06:10
Of course its to take out the warm air...but with an exhaust fan why would you even need to take out the warm air with the psu? Like Rodney says I rather not overheat the psu.
By: njaffar. on 04 Dec 08, 00:18:26
I know Rodney that this is around the same topic but not quite I will ask this anyway: On the Antec 1200 that you reviewed do you have to flip the PSU and then install it? I don't see any vents at the bottom.
By: shaolindreams. on 03 Dec 08, 23:21:38
bottom seems right.. but wouldnt the heat rise from the psu if its located on the bottom?
By: D0M1N8R1x. on 03 Dec 08, 22:07:49
A rear exhaust fan or top mounted exhaust fan do a better job and think most of the high powered power supplies would be best getting the coolest air under load. Lower end systems I'll agree better to kill 2 birds with one stone. Get it top mounted.
By: 1N00kie1. on 03 Dec 08, 18:05:19
the second function of a power suppyl is to take out warm air from the case, so rodney your answer is wrong.
By: Laoch111. on 03 Dec 08, 16:12:04
Great tips. But why are power supplies are on the top part of the computer by default?
By: Zparticus. on 03 Dec 08, 05:14:13
Alot of cases wont allow for a PSU to be flipped, the screws dont line up correctly
By: Heartagramerz. on 03 Dec 08, 03:30:02
I know this computer that the psu is making weird noise. should it be replaced??
By: bbcpu. on 03 Dec 08, 03:22:52
If the fan of a psu is at the bottom and your case has the psu positioned at the bottom, do you flip the power supply upside down for the fan to take in the air from the top or leave it fan side down and get the air from the small gap between the power supply and the case bottom?
By: Kenster1025. on 03 Dec 08, 03:15:07
Two other reasons. Warm air rises, and cooler air falls in most environments. Also it allows you to better place a liquid cooling system in the case if the exhaust/intake fans are near the top of the case.
By: Jiraya12345. on 03 Dec 08, 03:10:01
Another good reason to mount it at the bottom is that, if there isn't a support bar and the screws somehow fail, you've got a 10 pound weight crashing through the rest of your system.
By: Oakkiller77. on 03 Dec 08, 03:09:22
It looks fine to me.
By: J4gg1T. on 03 Dec 08, 03:05:56
that would be awesome. I do notice that you have been doing more of the Q&A videos lately, and why not use the best technology you have available? Love the channel by the way, you have influenced more of my hardware purchases than any other source. Keep up the great work.

Yea, a little. This Logitech 9000 WebCam is not the greatest. I might just switch to HD camcorder I have to shoot these Q&A videos.

Is it just me or is this out of sync?
By: ivefantrance. on 03 Dec 08, 02:40:16
That's because most people don't put any additional fan in their PC other than CPU and the power supply, so the power supply itself acts as a cooling fan to exhaust the case's hot air out.
By: Vagmonster666. on 03 Dec 08, 02:36:42
rodney what is your fav pie? :P mine is cherry.
By: Darklink224. on 03 Dec 08, 02:36:32
i think its because heat rises so more heat will be transferred throughout the case if its on the bottom
