What I like about Ron Paul is that he seems to talk about the matters truthfully even if it goes against what is considered the best way to lure votes. I'm not an american and don't watch their politics all the time but I've seen quite a bit in my life and what I dislike most about it is the whole "show" feel of it. So many speeches made in front of a croud that consists of nothing but their own supporters who of course always cheer wildly regardless of what the person says. The matters they talk about are also often so vague and emotionally appealing that the whole thing sounds more like pure fishing of votes than talking about matters.

I heard Paul Anka sing the song 'Walking in Memphis', which came out in 2007, 50 years after 'Diana' came out. In both songs, Anka's voice sounded completely different. It can be because when he sang 'Diana', he was a teenager and when he sang 'Walking in Memphis', he was a much older adult. Great song.

Inflation is caused simply by an increase in money supply. A commodity backed currency is not exempt as it is also subject to increases in supply (e.g. Gold Rushes). They do indeed protect against govt. overspending and hyperinflation--but as I brought up in a an earlier post economies frequently face deflationary periods when the supply of the commodity dries up.

Bartering is the oldest form of "currency" in the world. It's pure supply and demand. "I need bananas, but I have goats. My neighbor needs goat milk and has bananas. Let's trade." Do you even know what inflation is? You keep saying overvalue, which leads me to believe that you don't. Inflation, in a nutshell, means that the more money you print the less valuable the rest of the money in the system is worth. The term inflation refers to the price of goods, IE food/gasoline/etc. The price goes UP, because the dollar value is LOWER. Inflation is not a natural phenomenon in all currency systems. You measure that statement by doing simple price comparisons of commodities in the past vs prices of commodities in the present. In the 1950's for example, you could go to the grocery store with about 5 dollars and come out with several bags of groceries. Today, you go into a grocery store with 5 bucks and are lucky if you come out with more than one or two items. I'm not worried about the dollar's overvalue, I'm worried about how worthless the dollar is becoming. It's paper. Nothing more.

I did read that in the history I studied in year 12 in my books (Australia). I think that is pretty poor if you weren't allowed to know these things. However, there was no special wealth created from this system during this time. It is only the wealth generated from slavery that came from Stalin and then the destalinisation period didn't have anywhere near the production of somewhere like American instrustrialisation.

He purged it of Stalin, and moved him away from the Lenin mousaleum. He released thousands og Kulaks, and let people write books critisizing communism. During Stalin's reign he implemented Agrarian policies which lead to millions of deaths of citizens who starved in famines. The stalin trials for wiping out his opposition were in no way fair either, the trials were secret and he established his own dictatorship. There was massive political unrest and rioting. I studied Russian history during the era you're talking about and the quality of life in Russia was shocking. I think you need to dig a little deeper into your research as the population was extremely poor, struggled for survival and had lives the equivelant of slaves to initiate the industrial revolution. This was off the back of having a Tsar in power who did not take care of the people and let the country fall into ruin so by relation you'd expect life to improve with any reasonable system.
